new orchestral opener "Play" premiered
On May 6th, 2022 Sebastian Tewinkel and Neubrandenburg Philharmonie gave my 10-minute orchestra composition Play a lively and energetic German premiere. Dedicated to the free agent in the heart of every musician, the work showcases the spontaneous interaction between the orchestra musicians in a lively and sporty way and also involves a good deal of room for spontaneity. The composition was co-commissioned by the Jugend Sinfonieorchester Zürich, which performed in Austria, Hungary, and Switzerland last October under the direction David Bruchez-Lalli (yes, the trombonist!). Sebastian Tewinkel has premiered three other orchestra works of mine in the past, Love Hurts - Carmen Remix in 2003, ALIAS - Mozart aka Rossini in 2005, and Hans Schönthal’s Gesamtwerke für Orchestra in 2011. However, Play starts without the conductor! But both David and Sebastian were great sports and went along with the fun.
